There's a lot of hype, and only a little pertinent information, about low carb diets, a lot of misconceptions linger around. It's rightly said 'the good is often accompanied by the bad'. Similarly, along with the weight loss advantages, low carb diet also has certain negative points to it. Every one knows about low carb diet but only a few have the correct info about the same.

The Real Deal

A Low carb diet never means a NO carb diet. A low carb diet only restricts and sets an upper limit to the carb intake. By this, it forces the body to retrieve energy from the fat reserves in it and thus help in exhausting the stored fat. Carbs cannot be totally neglected as they are major energy fuel for the body. It turns into sugar (glucose) as soon as we ingest them; this glucose is one of the body's preferred sources of energy. A low carb diets might more closely resemble a diabetic diet than an Atkins diet. This information about the carbs is generally overridden inmost cases.

Protein is an important constituent in development of the body. It is not an energy fuel but is needed for muscle building and maintenance. Burning protein for energy is an inefficient process as proteins first has to be converted into a form of energy that the body can use. This conversion process creates toxins which causes irritability and tiredness. A no carb diet uses protein for energy. This information is worth noticing and including certain minimum amount of carbs is very important.

Before starting on a low or no carb diet, one should be well aware of the host of side effects the diet may pose to a person. For keeping yourself informed about these effects, there are various online guides and bookstores.
